Ambrose Kiapseni

Ambrose Kiapseni MSC (born October 16, 1945 in Ton, Masahet ; † December 20, 2019 in Kopkop , New Ireland Province ) was a Papuan-New Guinean religious and Roman Catholic bishop of Kavieng .

Life

Ambrose Kiapseni was only able to attend school when she was 15. In 1965 he entered the minor seminary at Ulapia Mission. 1970 joined the religious order of the Sacred Heart Missionaries in Vunapau in the East New Britain Province and received his theological training from 1971 to 1976 at the major seminary in Bomana. He was ordained a priest on January 7, 1975 . He has served in pastoral care in Lemakot, Manus Province , Lord of the Isles and Vunapau. In 1981/82 he completed an apprenticeship in the Philippines and was then novice master of his order until 1988. In 1989 he became the administrator of Kavieng Cathedral .

Pope John Paul II appointed him Bishop of Kavieng on January 21, 1991. The Archbishop of Rabaul , Karl Hesse MSC, donated him episcopal ordination on May 12 of the same year ; Co- consecrators were Desmond Charles Moore MSC, Bishop of Alotau-Sideia , and Michael Marai , Bishop of Goroka .

On June 22, 2018, Pope Francis accepted his early resignation.
