The Bistum Goroka ( lat. : Dioecesis Gorokanus ) is in Papua New Guinea preferred Roman Catholic diocese based in Goroka . It includes the province of Eastern Highlands Province .

history

Pope John XXIII founded the Apostolic Vicariate Goroka with the Apostolic Constitution Prophetica vox on June 18, 1959 from cessions of territory from the Apostolic Vicariate Alexishafen .

With the bull Laeta incrementa it was raised on November 15, 1966 to the diocese, which was subordinated to the Archdiocese of Madang as a suffragan diocese. On March 18, 1982 it became part of the ecclesiastical province of the Archdiocese of Mount Hagen . On June 8 of the same year it lost part of its territory in favor of the establishment of the Kundiawa diocese .
