The Roman Catholic Archdiocese of Mount Hagen ( lat. : Archidioecesis Montis Hagensis ) is in Papua New Guinea situated Roman Catholic archdiocese , based in Mount Hagen .

history

The Archdiocese of Mount Hagen was founded on June 18, 1959 by Pope Johannes XXIII. Established from the cession of territory by the Apostolic Vicariates Alexishafen and Wewak as the Apostolic Vicariate Mount Hagen . On November 15, 1966, the Apostolic Vicariate Mount Hagen was raised to a diocese and subordinated to the Archdiocese of Madang as a suffragan . The Diocese of Mount Hagen gave up on March 18, 1982 parts of its territory to establish the Diocese of Wabag . On March 18, 1982, the diocese Mount Hagen was raised to the archbishopric.
