Michael Meier (Bishop)

Michael Meier SVD (born October 19, 1928 in Wolfshausen ) is retired Archbishop of Mount Hagen .

Life

Michael Meier joined the religious order of the Steyler Missionaries and was ordained a priest on May 30, 1957 .

Pope John Paul II appointed him Coadjutor Archbishop of Mount Hagen on July 2, 1984 . The episcopal ordination donated him the Archbishop of Mount Hagen, George Elmer Bernarding SVD, on August 15 of the same year; Co -consecrators were Archbishop Francesco De Nittis , Apostolic Pro-Nuncio in Papua New Guinea , and Gregory Singkai , Bishop of Bougainville .

After George Elmer Bernarding's retirement , he succeeded him on March 7, 1987 in the office of Archbishop of Mount Hagen.

On July 17, 2006, Pope Benedict XVI. his resignation request submitted for reasons of age.
