Francesco De Nittis

Francesco De Nittis (born July 3, 1933 in Vieste , Foggia province ; † March 10, 2014 ibid.) Was an Italian diplomat from the Holy See .

Life

Francesco De Nittis studied philosophy and theology and was ordained a priest on July 15, 1956 . After graduating from the Pontifical Diplomatic Academy , he entered the Diplomatic Service of the Holy See in 1959 .

Pope John Paul II appointed him on March 7, 1981 Titular Archbishop of Tunes and Apostolic Pro-Nuncio in Papua New Guinea and Apostolic Delegate to the Solomon Islands . The episcopal ordination received his Cardinal Secretary of State Agostino Casaroli on May 2, 1981; Co- consecrators were Duraisamy Simon Lourdusamy , Secretary of the Congregation for the Evangelization of Peoples , and Valentino Vailati , Archbishop of Manfredonia e Vieste .

On January 24, 1985 he was appointed Apostolic Nuncio in El Salvador and on April 10, 1986 as Apostolic Nuncio in Honduras . On June 25, 1990, John Paul II called him apostolic nuncio in Uruguay and accepted his early resignation on November 11, 1999 for health reasons.
