Janusz Bolonek
Janusz Bolonek (born December 6, 1938 in Huta Dłutowska , † March 2, 2016 ) was a Polish clergyman and diplomat of the Holy See .
Life
The auxiliary bishop in Łódź , Jan-Wawrzyniec Kulik , ordained him on December 17, 1961 as a priest .
On September 25, 1989, Pope John Paul II appointed him Apostolic Pro-Nuncio in Ivory Coast and Titular Archbishop pro hac vice of Madaurus . The Pope personally donated to him on 20 October 1989 in St. Peter's Basilica , the episcopal ordination ; Co-consecrators were Edward Idris Cassidy , substitute for the State Secretariat , and Francesco Colasuonno , Apostolic Nuncio in Poland . As a motto he chose Uni Trinque Deo .
On November 18, 1989, he was also appointed Apostolic Pro-Nuncio in Niger and Burkina Faso . On January 23, 1995 he was appointed Apostolic Nuncio to Romania . On November 11, 1999, he was appointed Apostolic Nuncio to Uruguay . On May 24, 2008 he was appointed Apostolic Nuncio in Bulgaria . On May 4, 2011 he was also appointed Apostolic Nuncio in Macedonia .
In 2012 he was awarded the Order of Merit of the Republic of Poland (Officer's Cross) by the Polish President Bronisław Komorowski for outstanding services to the development of cooperation between the Republic of Poland and the Holy See, for the promotion of the Polish community and the promotion of Polish culture . He has also been honored with other awards such as the Ordre de Miguel Larreynaga (Nicaragua), Médaille Salvo D'Acquisto of the Fondazione Alleanza Mondiale, Ordre national de la République de Côte d'Ivoire (Knights) and others.
In 2012, after an evaluation of files from the secret service SB , which is controlled by the communist party leadership, it became known that Bolonek was being used as an SB informant under the code name “Prorok” (Prophet). His reports from the Vatican, kept in the Institute for National Remembrance , are more than 600 pages long. Bolonek, however, denied having worked for the SB.
