Giuseppe Leanza
Giuseppe Leanza (born January 2, 1943 in Cesarò , Italy ) is a Roman Catholic clergyman and diplomat emeritus of the Holy See .
Life
Giuseppe Leanza was ordained priest at the age of 23 . After completing a doctoral degree in Canon Law , he entered the diplomatic service of the Holy See in 1972 and worked in Paraguay , Uganda , USA and in the Roman Curia .
Pope John Paul II appointed him titular archbishop of Lilybaeum on June 3, 1990 and appointed him apostolic nuncio in Haiti . He received his episcopal ordination on September 22, 1990, Curia Cardinal Agostino Casaroli ; Co- consecrators were Curia Archbishop Pio Laghi and Ignazio Zambito , Bishop of Patti.
Giuseppe Leanza took over the duties of a pro-nuncio for the countries of Malawi and Zambia , through the simultaneous assignment on June 4, 1991. Giuseppe Leanza continued his service as apostolic nuncio from April 29, 1999 for three years in Bosnia-Herzegovina . The diplomatic missions of the Holy See in Slovenia and Macedonia followed . Archbishop Giuseppe Leanza was appointed Apostolic Nuncio to Bulgaria on February 22, 2003 . On February 22, 2008, the Vatican diplomat was appointed the new Apostolic Nuncio in Ireland .
Pope Benedict XVI appointed him on September 15, 2011 as Apostolic Nuncio in the Czech Republic . With the appointment of his successor Charles Daniel Balvo on September 21, 2018, he entered age-related retirement.
Giuseppe Leanza is Grand Cross Knight of the Order of the Holy Sepulcher in Jerusalem .
