Charles Daniel Balvo (born June 29, 1951 in Brooklyn ) is an American clergyman, archbishop and diplomat of the Holy See .

Life

He was ordained a priest on June 6, 1976 by the Bishop of San Diego , Leo Thomas Maher .

On April 1, 2005, Pope John Paul II appointed him titular archbishop pro hac vice of Castello . He received his episcopal ordination on June 29th of the same year by the Archbishop of New York , Edward Michael Cardinal Egan ; Co-consecrators were Gabriel Montalvo Higuera , Apostolic Nuncio to the United States of America , and Celestino Migliore , Apostolic Nuncio to the United Nations .

Archbishop Balvo was Apostolic Nuncio from April 1, 2005 to January 17, 2013 in Fiji and the Marshall Islands , in Kiribati , in the Federated States of Micronesia , in New Zealand , in Palau , in Tonga , in Vanuatu . During the same period he was Apostolic Delegate for Oceania . From March 25, 2006 to January 17, 2013 he was also Apostolic Nuncio to the Cook Islands , Samoa and Nauru .

On January 17, 2013, Pope Benedict XVI appointed him . to the Apostolic Nuncio in Kenya and sent him as a " permanent observer " to the United Nations Environment Program and the United Nations Program for Human Settlements - HABITAT in Nairobi . On December 21, 2013, Pope Francis also appointed him Apostolic Nuncio in South Sudan .

On September 21, 2018, Pope Francis appointed him Apostolic Nuncio in the Czech Republic .
