Celestino Migliore (born July 1, 1952 in Cuneo , Piedmont , Italy ) is an Italian clergyman , Roman Catholic archbishop and diplomat of the Holy See .

Life

Celestino Migliore studied at the Diocesan Seminary in Fossano and received a doctorate in Canon Law from the Pontifical Lateran University in Rome . He was ordained a priest on June 25, 1977 . After studying at the Pontifical Diplomatic Academy and language training in French and English, he entered the diplomatic service of the Vatican. From 1980 to 1984 he was a member of the Apostolic Delegation in Angola.

In 1984 he became an employee of the Apostolic Nunciature in the USA . In 1988 he moved to the nunciature in Egypt and in 1989 to Poland. From 1992 to 1995 he represented the Holy See at the Council of Europe in Strasbourg. In 1995 he became Undersecretary of the Roman Curia Department for US Relations in Rome; He also headed high-level delegations in China, Vietnam and North Korea. He has attended many United Nations conferences. He also taught as a visiting professor at the Lateran University.

On 30 October 2002 appointed him Pope John Paul II. To Titular Archbishop of Canosa and succeed Renato Raffaele Martino for permanent observer at the United Nations in New York . The Pope personally donated his episcopal ordination on January 6th of the following year in St. Peter's Basilica ; Co-consecrators were the Curia Archbishops Leonardo Sandri , substitute for the State Secretariat , and Antonio Maria Vegliò , Secretary of the Congregation for the Eastern Churches .

On June 10, 2010, Pope Benedict XVI called him . as successor to Józef Kowalczyk as Apostolic Nuncio in Poland. Pope Francis appointed him Apostolic Nuncio to the Russian Federation on May 28, 2016 . On January 21, 2017, Pope Francis also appointed him Apostolic Nuncio in Uzbekistan .

On January 11, 2020, Pope Francis appointed him Apostolic Nuncio in France .
