Desmond Charles Moore

Desmond Charles Moore MSC (born May 12, 1926 in Thebarton , † June 2, 2020 in Sydney ) was an Australian religious and Roman Catholic bishop of Alotau-Sideia in Papua New Guinea .

Life

Desmond Charles Moore joined the order of the Sacred Heart Missionaries and was ordained a priest on July 27, 1957 . After working in his monastery in Douglas Park, New South Wales , he worked in Papua New Guinea for the Bishop of Port Moresby . For two years he served as superior of his order in Port Moresby and then in pastoral care in Milne Bay. He was made a knight in 1966 for his engagement in Papua New Guinea.

Pope Paul VI appointed him on March 7, 1970 Bishop of Alotau-Sideia. The Archbishop of Port Moresby , Virgil Patrick Copas , ordained him episcopal on July 2 of the same year ; Co- consecrators were James William Gleeson , Archbishop of Adelaide , and Francis John Doyle , Bishop Emeritus of Sideia. He was chairman of the Commission for Ecumenism and vice-chairman of the Working Group of Christian Churches in Papua New Guinea.

On June 25, 2001, John Paul II accepted his age-related resignation. He last lived at Kensington Convent in Kensington, New South Wales, where he died at the age of 94.
