The Archdiocese of Libreville ( Latin Archidioecesis Liberopolitanus ) is a Roman Catholic Archdiocese based in Libreville , Gabon . It includes the provinces of Estuaire and Moyen-Ogooué .

history

On January 22, 1842, the apostolic prefecture of the two Guineas and Senegambia was founded by the diocese of Funchal and the diocese of Tomé . In 1846 this prefecture was transformed into the Apostolic Vicariate of the Two Guineas and Senegambias, on February 6, 1863 it was renamed the Apostolic Vicariate of the Two Guineas and finally on March 18, 1890 the Apostolic Vicariate of Gabon.

On July 10, 1947, the Gabon Vicariate was renamed Vicariate Libreville and on September 14, 1955 it was converted into a diocese. Three years later, on December 11, 1958, the diocese became an archdiocese.
