Basile Mvé Engone

Basile Mvé Engone SDB (born May 30, 1941 in Nkolmelène , Gabon ) is a Gabonese religious and emeritus Roman Catholic Archbishop of Libreville .

Life

After studying Catholic theology , Basile Mvé Engone was ordained a priest of the Salesians of Don Bosco on June 29, 1973 .

On April 24, 1980 appointed him Pope John Paul II. To Coadjutor Bishop of Oyem . The episcopal ordination donated him the bishop of Oyem, François Ndong four months later; Co -consecrators were André Fernand Anguilé and Félicien-Patrice Makouaka . After Ndong's resignation on August 23, 1982, Mvé Engone succeeded him as Bishop of Oyem. On April 3, 1998, John Paul II appointed him Archbishop of Libreville.

On June 27, 2007, Archbishop Mvé Engone, along with some other bishops, attended a briefing in the Apostolic Palace on the Motu Proprio Summorum Pontificum on the celebration of the Tridentine Mass .

From April 4, 2016 to January 13, 2018, he administered the diocese of Franceville as Apostolic Administrator during the Sedis vacancy .

Pope Francis accepted his age-related resignation on March 12, 2020.
