John Kodwo Amissah

John Kodwo Amissah (born November 27, 1922 in Elmina , Ghana , † September 22, 1991 ) was Archbishop of Cape Coast .

Life

On December 11, 1949, John Kodwo Amissah received the sacrament of ordination . On December 7, 1957, Amissah was named Auxiliary Bishop of Cape Coast and Titular Bishop of Bencenna . The Ghanaians received episcopal ordination on June 16, 1957 by the Archbishop of Cape Coast, William Thomas Porter SMA ; Co-consecrators were the Bishop of Kumasi , André van den Bronk SMA, and the Bishop of Accra , Joseph Oliver Bowers SVD . Amissah was named Archbishop of Cape Coast on December 19, 1959, succeeding the resigned William Thomas Porter at the age of 37.

Amissah attended all four sessions of the Second Vatican Council between 1962 and 1965 . He died at the age of 68 in a traffic accident in Ghana.
