Ernie Henry
Ernie Henry (born September 3, 1926 in Brooklyn , New York City , † December 29, 1957 in New York ) was an American alto saxophonist .
Live and act
Ernie Henry played at the beginning of his career around 1947 for Tadd Dameron , 1948/49 for Dizzy Gillespie and from 1950 to 1951 for Illinois Jacquet . After he had retired from the jazz scene for a few years, Henry then worked with Thelonious Monk on his Brilliant Corners session in 1956 and again with Gillespie in 1957.
His Charlie Parker- influenced performance can be heard on records by Tadd Dameron, Kenny Dorham , Gillespie, Matthew Gee , Howard McGhee and Fats Navarro , Monk and James Moody . He also recorded three albums under his own name in 1956/57, on which Kenny Dorham, Kenny Drew , Wynton Kelly , Wilbur Ware , Art Taylor and Philly Joe Jones played.
