The Ernst-Ludwig-Teich is located on the south-eastern edge of Langen . The pond is approx. 170 m long and approx. 65 m wide. It has an area of approx. 1.5 hectares. An earth dam with a passage dams the water. The Hegbach flows around the pond . The Ernst-Ludwig-Teich is located in the NSG Hegbachaue near Messel in the Koberstädter Forest .

History and etymology
The Ernst Ludwig pond was created around 1890 - as part of a large-scale transformation of the forest into a recreation area - as a fish farming pond for carp and pike. The body of water is named after Ernst Ludwig von Hessen-Darmstadt (1667–1739), from 1678 to 1739 Landgrave of Hessen-Darmstadt .
