The Ernst-Moritz-Arndt-Gymnasium in Bergen auf Rügen is a grammar school with the title European School . It was founded in 1913 and named after Ernst Moritz Arndt , a poet of the Napoleonic era. The grammar school is the second largest school in Mecklenburg-Western Pomerania and is characterized by its high number of students for the country's conditions and a wide range of courses. It is a school with an all-day program . In addition to French, the Ernst-Moritz-Arndt-Gymnasium is one of the few schools in Mecklenburg-Western Pomerania that offers Spanish as a subject. The school grounds comprise five buildings (old building, specialist building, extension, cafeteria and sports hall).

extension

In 1995, the school was expanded to include a six-story building with a large glass front. Otherwise it consists of an old specialist building from the founding time and a barrack, the expansion of which was completed in 2011. The formerly used building in the grass chamber was assigned to the regional school "Am Rugard". At times the school operated a branch in Binz , which has since been closed due to declining student numbers. In 2001 the school was expanded to include the largest sports hall on the island of Rügen . The school is attended by around 1300 students.

In 2006, an atrium was built between the main building and the specialist building. In addition, the roof structure was expanded. It now houses a gallery and a dome for astronomical observations.
