Ernst Büchel

Ernst Büchel (born February 26, 1922 in Gamprin ; † August 3, 2003 ibid) was a Liechtenstein lawyer and politician (FBP).

biography

Büchel grew up as the third of eight children of Wilhelm and Maria Büchel (née Wohlwend) in Gamprin . Büchel's father worked in agriculture and among other things acted successively as councilor, treasurer and mayor of Gamprin.

From the spring of 1928 Büchel attended the comprehensive school in Gamprin. From 1937 he then attended the Gutenberg Lyceum in Balzers and finally to the Untere Waid grammar school in Mörschwil in the canton of St. Gallen . In the summer of 1945 he passed the federal Matura at the College of St. Michael in Freiburg im Üechtland .

Büchel now studied law at the University of Freiburg , where he made 1948 his licentiate . At the University of Innsbruck , he continued his studies and obtained his doctorate on May 20, 1950 for Doctor iuris . He now returned to Liechtenstein and worked successively in the government chancellery, at the regional court and in a law firm.

In August 1954, Büchel opened his own law firm on the first floor of the Ludwig Ospelt furniture store in Vaduz. On June 20, 1974, Büchel, who had represented the plaintiff , was shot by Reinhold Glatt, who had just been sentenced, and injured in his right upper arm. The court president Walter Hildebrand, who was also present, was seriously injured by a shot in the temple and died shortly after his admission to the Grabs hospital.

From 1957 to 1982 he was a member of the Liechtenstein State Parliament for the Progressive Citizens' Party and was a parliamentary group spokesman for a few years. Furthermore, he was from 1963 to 1966 in the local council of his home parish Gamprin. From 1955 to 1970 he was a member of the Board of Directors of the Liechtenstein Landesbank. There he worked as their secretary until 1966 and served as president for the remaining four years. As a result of the victory achieved by the Fatherland Union in the state elections in 1970, he resigned from this office. Büchel remained active as a lawyer until 1988.

Büchel was unmarried and had no children.
