Ernst Balzli

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Ernst Balzli (born April 10, 1902 in Bolligen ; † January 3, 1959 ibid) was a Swiss writer and radio producer who wrote books for young people in standard German as well as stories, poems and plays in the Bernese dialect.

Life

Balzli was originally a teacher and then worked from 1946 to 1954 at Radio Bern , where he primarily for his popular dialect radio plays based on works of Jeremias Gotthelf made a name. After scathing criticism from Walter Muschg (1898–1965, half-brother of Adolf Muschg ) and other literary scholars , he gave up his radio activity and returned to school.

Almost all of his two dozen plays were performed by the Berner Heimatschutz Theater and his poems and stories were published in, among others, Rudolf von Tavel's magazine Die Garbe , of which he was an editor from 1934 to 1954.

Balzli's estate is in the Bern Burger Library . He was the father of the film producer and director Res Balzli .
