Ernst Bräuning

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Ernst Bräuning (born February 12, 1921 in Hünfeld ; † September 18, 1983 ibid) was a German painter and businessman from Hünfeld. The spectrum of the artistic work is much larger than the name “Rhön painter” would suggest.

Life

Ernst Bräuning was born in 1921 as one of seven children of Anna and Josef Bräuning. At the age of ten he was already seriously engaged in painting . He studied five winter semesters with the academic painter Hugo Pfister (Fulda). The early break occurred with the outbreak of the Second World War . Ernst Bräuning, who himself survived the war seriously wounded, lost his three older brothers.

Artistic decisions in terms of continuity were not possible for a young painter in Germany after 1945. For Ernst Bräuning, this meant continuing his father's painting business in Hünfeld instead of studying art. Ernst Bräuning, who was married to the daughter of the church painter Hermann Wirth, had three children. When he first went public with his pictures in his home at the end of the sixties, he had long since developed into an independent painting style. Ernst Bräuning's pictures show "realistic, expressive and abstract stylistic features". His main subjects are landscapes of the Rhön and Christian motifs. He uses the mother and child theme particularly often. Ernst Bräuning died of leukemia in 1983. Since 1995 there has been a permanent exhibition by Ernst Bräuning in the Konrad Zuse Museum with the town and district history in Hünfeld . Ernst-Bräuning-Strasse was inaugurated in Hünfeld on July 24, 2005. The notice under the sign reads: “Ernst Bräuning, most important Huenfeld painter of the 20th century”.
