Ernst Brandenburg (born January 17, 1882 in Werne , Bochum district , † March 19, 1952 in Magdeburg ) was a German trade unionist and social democratic politician.

Life

Brandenburg completed a molding apprenticeship after graduating from elementary school and worked as a metal worker until 1911. In Magdeburg he was a board member in the branch of the German Metalworkers' Association . From 1911 to 1914 he was full-time managing director of the metal workers' association in Hildesheim . In April 1914 he became party secretary of the SPD in Stendal . Between 1914 and 1916, Brandenburg was a soldier in World War I , from which he returned home as a war disabled. Then he worked again as a party secretary. Between 1920 and 1933 Brandenburg was a full-time Gauleiter of the agricultural workers' association in Magdeburg.

Between 1917 and 1921 he was a member of the city council in Stendal and since 1919 head of the city council. From 1918 to 1920 he was the chairman of the SPD in the Altmark . Brandenburg had been a member of the Magdeburg-Anhalt district board since 1927. He was also a member of the federal board of the Reichsbanner Schwarz-Rot-Gold .

In December 1918, Brandenburg took part in the first Reich Council Congress. Between 1919 and 1921 he was a member of the Prussian constitutional assembly and then until 1933 of the Prussian state parliament .
