Ernst Diestel
Ernst Gottlieb Gustav Diestel (born March 3, 1859 in Hamburg , † October 31, 1936 in Berlin ) was a German pastor and writer .
Life
Diestel was born the son of the merchant and consul in Valparaíso Georg Ludwig Friedrich Diestel (1817–1907) and his wife Marie Sophie Stresow (1828–1916). His brother was Arnold Diestel , Mayor of Hamburg. From the summer semester of 1880 he studied theology in Tübingen , where he became a member of the Tübingen fraternity Derendingia in 1880 . Diestel worked for many years as a pastor in Berlin-Grunewald and as a prison pastor in Berlin .
Diestel wrote the song Alma mater tubingensis in the summer semester of 1881 as the federal song of Derendingia. The song found its way into the General German Kommersbuch , enjoyed great popularity with the other Tübingen corporations and became the most famous Tübingen student song and the popular hymn to the university city of Tübingen.
