Ernst Epple

Ernst Epple (born January 24, 1908 in Hanau , † June 28, 1976 in Singen ) was a German SS-Unterscharfuhrer , head of the Kurowice forced labor camp and a convicted war criminal .

Life

After attending elementary school , he worked as a crane operator and machine worker . In 1936 he became a member of the SS . In November 1939 he was transferred to the subordinate school of the Waffen SS in Breslau . He then joined the 8th SS Totenkopfverband in Krakow . In the summer of 1940 he was seconded to the Lublin Special Service because of poor health . From October 15, 1941 he was deployed to the SSPF Lemberg . Until the end of 1942 he was the commandant of the Kurowice forced labor camp and in autumn 1942 he was an instructor at the SS replacement battalion in Arolsen . In spring 1943 he was drafted into the Waffen SS.

From 1945 to 1949 he was a Soviet prisoner of war. Then he worked as a crane operator in Reutlingen . From August 1960 to December 1965 and from October 1966 he was in custody . On April 29, 1968 he was sentenced to life imprisonment by the Stuttgart Regional Court for murder in 6 cases of a total of 8 people and for assisting the murder of at least 20 people in one case. In June 1976 he died in the Singen correctional facility.
