Ernst Eugster

Ernst Eugster (born January 22, 1945 ) is a former Dutch judoka . He won two bronze medals at world championships and three bronze medals at European championships.

Career

Ernst Eugster usually competed in the light heavyweight division, the weight class up to 93 kilograms. Eugster won his first international medal at the 1967 World Championships in Salt Lake City. In 1968 at the European Championships in Lausanne, he won bronze in both the individual and team rankings. The following year he was defeated by Vladimir Pokatajew from the Soviet Union in the semifinals of the European Championships in Ostend . At the 1969 World Championships he competed in two weight classes. In the light heavyweight division he defeated Helmut Howiller in the round of 16from the GDR, lost in the quarter-finals to Vladimir Pokatajew and ultimately took seventh place. In the open class, Eugster was also defeated in the quarterfinals against the Japanese Nobuyuki Satō , after victories over the French Jean-Luc Rougé and Helmut Howiller, Eugster received a bronze medal. In late 1969 and early 1971 Eugster won the Dutch championships. At the European Championships in Gothenburg in 1971 , Voorburg finished with the team in second place behind the team from the United Kingdom. In the individual ranking he received a bronze medal. The following year, at the European Championships in Voorburg in 1972 , Eugster took third place in the individual and team rankings. In the individual ranking, Jan Bosman won silver, who then also competed for the Netherlands at the Olympic Games in Munich.
