Ernst Gartmann

Ernst Gartmann (born December 17, 1905 in Valens , in the Pfäfers municipality ; † 1983 ) was a musician , yodeler and conductor from the Swiss canton of St. Gallen .

In Valens, where he grew up, he took piano and organ lessons. He was a teacher by profession. As a conductor, he directed church choirs in Wangs, Weisstannen , Bernhardzell and Bad Ragaz . He was a referee at 9 federal yodelling festivals. He was also active as a composer and arranger .

In 1979 he was awarded the Golden Treble Clef, which is considered the highest honor in the field of folk music in Switzerland. He also worked on the board of the Federal Yodelling Association and was editor of the club newspaper.
