Weisstannental
The Weisstannental is a valley and a valley in the Sarganserland in Switzerland .
geography
The Weisstannental is located southwest of Sargans and is part of the largest political municipality in Mels in the canton of St. Gallen . The villages of Schwendi SG and Weisstannen are part of the valley . It is the headwaters of the Seez , which flows through the valley in a northeast direction and after Mels in a northwest direction to the Walensee . In the upper section of the valley is the Isengrindfall with a fall height of 230 m. At Weisstanner Oberdorf, the Gufelbach flows into the Seez from the southeast. The Batöni waterfall arena is located in the headwaters of the Gufelbach .
history
The number of inhabitants in the 16th century is estimated at around 300 people, most of whom lived from agriculture . Due to the shortage of feed for the cattle, farmers fought over the pastureland. Locals believed that establishing a unified political community would bring about a just order. A local parish was founded in the Allmendgenossenschaft in 1502 , and the Weisstannental has had its own parish since 1523 - today's local parish Weisstannen. In 1911, the first five ibex were released on the Rappenloch above Alp Sässli, south of Weisstannen, after their extinction in Switzerland.
Overhead line crossings
Between the valley and the Mels there are two striking overhead line crossings with the 380 kV Bonaduz − Breite line of Nordostschweizerische Kraftwerke AG and the 380 kV Sils – Fällanden line of EW Zurich. The latter intersection was built as a difficult structure in the mid-1990s.
