Ernst Hamkens

Ernst Hamkens (born May 30, 1869 in Tating , Eiderstedt district , † March 24, 1945 in Schleswig ) was a German farmer and politician (DVP).

Live and act

Hamkens attended high school in Husum . Then he became a businessman. From 1888 to 1892 he worked in this capacity in Hamburg, then three years in London and one year in Antwerp . In 1896 he went to Argentina, where he soon took over the management of a large grain export business. In 1902 he moved to Antwerp as the company's main manager, from where he went on several inspection trips to Argentina. In 1912 he returned to Schleswig-Holstein after working abroad for twenty years and from then on devoted himself exclusively to agriculture on his farm in Hanredder .

From 1924 to 1930 he was a member of the Reichstag . He represented constituency 13 (Schleswig) through the parliamentary group of the German People's Party (DVP), of which he was a member.

He also held management positions in the Schleswig-Holstein farmers' association .
