Ernst Heinrich Abel
Ernst Heinrich Abel (born September 20, 1721 in Köthen , † after 1787, probably in Bremen ) was a German portrait painter.
Life
Ernst Heinrich Abel came from a family of artists and was the son of the famous viol virtuoso Christian Ferdinand Abel , who worked in Köthen as "Premier Musicus" in Johann Sebastian Bach's court orchestra. The musician Leopold August Abel , the painter Ernst August Abel and the musician Carl Friedrich Abel were his brothers.
Abel's places of activity are Lübeck (1777), Cologne (1779), Hamburg (around 1780) and Bremen (1783). There is also evidence of a stay in London , where he looked after the estate of his brother Carl Friedrich Abel. There are 17 portraits of him in his estate catalog.
