Life

Ernst Hesse studied from 1976 to 1981 at the Art Academy in Düsseldorf with Erich Reusch , graduating in 1981 as a master class student. In 1980 he received a travel grant from the Ernst Poensgen Foundation. He toured the United States and Canada for two months. In 1992 he received a scholarship from the Sculpture Park Foundation at Seestern . Ernst Hesse lives and works in Düsseldorf.

Ernst Hesse is a sculptor, object artist and draftsman. He works with the media of photography, video and language. His sculptural works in iron and bronze are based on elementary forms. An essential aspect of his work is dealing with and communicating with other cultures. As an artist, he moves between cultures and documents this movement in space, the topic and the approach of his work in many individual catalog and work titles such as dialogues, correspondencias, fossil fragments, global framework for friendship, opening up spaces, open spaces, floats , Carte du Tendre or Fragments of Identity.

Since 1989 he has received numerous project-related teaching assignments in Southeast Asia, Ghana, Japan, Syria and Turkey. As early as 1996 he initiated the exchange exhibition "Dialogues - The Lost Idea of ​​the Order of Things", which he curated together with the Istanbul gallery owner and curator Beral Madra. In 2000, “Dialog and Multi Media Projection” followed by Max Müller Bhavan, Chennai (Madras), a cooperation with the Bharatanatyam dancer Shrividia Natarajan. Together with photographer Omanza Eugene Shaw and Ghanaian artists, he organized and moderated "Fragments of Identity" in 2001, Train Station, Agbogbloshie Scrap Metal Market, Osu Children's Home. In San Francisco in 2002, Hesse met the choreographer Joachim Schlömer and was interested in new forms of dance theater. From 2004 to 2013 he worked as a moderator and project manager in several schools in Düsseldorf. From 2006 to 2008 he created photo and multi-media documentations for the Freiburg-Heidelberg Theater with “pvc-tanz” Freiburg, Heidelberg. In 2012 he accepted an invitation from the Goethe-Institut to moderate and work on the project “Bread and Climate (wandel)”, a symposium and art-in-public project, together with the Goethe-Guerrilla, Goethe-Institut, Sarajevo, Bosnia-Herzegovina.
