Ernst Jirgal

Ernst Jirgal (born January 18, 1905 in Stockerau , † August 17, 1956 in Vienna ) was an Austrian teacher and writer .

Life

Jirgal first completed a degree in German and then went to the Federal Educational Institute in Wiener Neustadt as a teacher . He later taught in secondary schools in Vienna, Linz and Baden. In 1947 he became head of the Tivoli day care center and was able to implement parts of his educational ideas there. From 1954 he worked again as a middle school teacher until his death.

He wrote u. a. the text of the Sicilian drinking song, one more sip from the lava , set to music by Heinrich Gattermeyer in September 1959 and dedicated to Leo Lehner , which was last performed by the Wiener Schubertbund under the direction of Fritz Brucker on January 6th, 2008 in the Wiener Musikvereinssaal.

He was buried in an honorary grave in the Baumgartner Friedhof (group V, row 31, number 2234).
