Ernst Kalb
Ernst Kalb (born January 11, 1930 in Oberursel ; † July 3, 2015 ) was cathedral chapter in the diocese of Mainz .
Life
After graduating from high school, Kalb studied Catholic theology at the Johannes Gutenberg University in Mainz and the University of Innsbruck . In Mainz he became an active member of the Catholic student association KStV Kurpfalz in KV . On July 24, 1955, Kalb received the sacrament of ordination through Bishop Albert Stohr in Mainz . This was followed by positions as chaplain in St. Andreas ( Lampertheim ) and St. Joseph ( Alzey ) [ second St. Joseph's Church ]. In 1959 he came back to Lampertheim and was employed there as a religion teacher at the Bergstrasse district vocational school, while at the same time he worked as a city and dean's youth pastor.
Bishop Hermann Volk appointed Kalb in 1964 as an assistant in the school department of the Episcopal Ordinariate in Mainz . Kalb acted as the deputy head of the department for religious instruction in schools and was responsible for the advanced training of the religious teachers. In 1986 Kalb succeeded Domdean Hermann Berg as head of the Schools and Universities Department. In the same year he became a member of the Mainz cathedral chapter .
In the course of his time as a department head, he took care of various concepts and methods: text-based religious instruction, Munich method, kerygmatic religious instruction, Bible instruction, problem-oriented religious instruction.
In 2000 he retired as a department head. Pope John Paul II awarded him the title of Honorary Chaplain of His Holiness in 1986 for his services and in 1990 he was made an "Honorary Prelate".
From 1997 to 2004 he was also vice-president of the Mainz diocese group of the Society for Middle Rhine Church History .
Kalb was buried on July 13, 2015 in the cathedral cemetery in Mainz.
