Ernst Klett , also called Ernst Klett the Elder , (* February 6, 1863 in Stuttgart ; † February 8, 1947 ibid) was a German businessman , publisher and entrepreneur and founder of Ernst Klett Verlag in Stuttgart.

Life

Ernst Klett initially worked as an accountant at BASF . In 1893 he married Melita Rippmann in London, with whom he had seven children.

In 1897, together with his brother-in-law Julius Hartmann, he bought the Königliche Hofbuchdruckerei zu Guttenberg in Stuttgart from Carl Grüninger . Together with his son Fritz Klett (1896–1951), who joined the family business in 1921, he continued to run the company. The company, today's Klett Group , has been family-owned since it was founded .

When his sons joined the family business - Fritz Klett in 1921 and Ernst Klett the Younger (1911–1998) in 1936 - Klett increasingly withdrew from operational business. He died in Stuttgart on February 8, 1947.
