Ernst Knaack
Ernst Knaack (born November 4, 1914 in Berlin , † August 28, 1944 in Brandenburg ) was a German communist and resistance fighter against National Socialism .
Life
In 1928 Knaack joined the Communist Youth Association of Germany (KJVD). He was the head of agitation and propaganda in the Prenzlauer Berg district . From 1933 he fought illegally against Nazi rule . In 1935 he was arrested for the first time on October 2, 1936 by the Court of Appeal sentenced to two years in prison in Berlin. After his release from prison, Knaack joined Robert Uhrig's illegal organization . On March 26, 1942, the Gestapo arrested him again and transferred him to the Sachsenhausen concentration camp , where he remained until his trial. On July 6, 1944, the People's Court passed the death sentence on him.
Appreciation
In Berlin-Prenzlauer Berg, the Knaackstrasse, the Ernst Knaack Jugendheim , which was known under the name Knaack-Klub until its closure , and the 24th POS Ernst Knaack in the Kastanienallee were named after him, the stele traditions of the German working class of Heinz Worner (Knaackstrasse 53-67) is dedicated to the murdered anti-fascists Ernst Knaack and Siegmund Sredzki . The youth hostel in Brotterode ( Thuringia ) also bears his name. His name is on the ring wall of the Socialist Memorial in the central cemetery in Berlin-Friedrichsfelde .
