Ernst Leverkus (born December 21, 1922 in Essen , † May 19, 1998 in Althütte ; pseudonym: Klacks ) was a German motorcycle journalist .

Life

Between the 1950s and 1970s, Ernst Leverkus tested almost every new motorcycle that came onto the market in Germany. Together with his partner Inge Rogge, he developed test methods and measurement procedures for motorcycles, which were an integral part of countless laps in the "Green Hell", the Nürburgring-Nordschleife , and the following test reports in the magazines "Das Motorrad" and "PS".

Services

Leverkus initiated the elephant meeting as well as the “black powder rally” and the “boy scout trophy” . He is awarded the invention of the tank bag . The success of the then only German motorcycle magazine " Das Motorrad " in the Stuttgart Motorbuch Verlag was largely due to his work , without he ever having been its editor-in-chief. In his later professional years, however, he was initially editor-in-chief of the motorcycle newspaper "PS", which initially wanted to be an alternative to the "motorcycle". His motorcycle reviews were valued for their competent, critical, but fair reporting; they influenced a number of motorcyclists who read Das Motorrad between 1955 and 1985.

Leverkus coined the term " rubber cow " for BMW boxer motorcycles . Even his “It's a piece of cake” has long been a legend.

He was the author of several books with motorcycle stories that deal with motorcycles, many journeys, the joy of screwing and the help and humanity among motorcyclists. In addition, he co-founded the Federal Association of Motorcyclists (BVDM) and shaped it decisively for many years.
