Ernst Ludwig Julius von Lenthe

Ernst Ludwig Julius von Lenthe (born December 28, 1744 in Hanover ; † December 12, 1814 there ) was a German lawyer, diplomat of the Electorate of Braunschweig-Lüneburg and Minister of the German Chancellery in London .

Life

Lenthe was the son of Otto Christian von Lenthe , on Obergut Lenthe, (1706–1750). He studied law at the University of Göttingen from April 15, 1763 until Easter 1766 . There, as a senior member of the Hanoverian Landsmannschaft, in the summer semester of 1765 he was in charge of the collection during the visit of the Duke of York on August 22, 1765 in Göttingen, and wrote the report on the event and the list of participants. After completing his studies, he entered the Hanoverian civil service, where he worked with Karl August von Hardenberg and was promoted to land and treasury council and secret war council until 1784. From 1787 he represented the interests of Kurhannovers as an envoy at the Prussian court in Berlin. From 1795 to 1805 he was Minister of the German Chancellery at the London court.

The composer Augustus Frederick Christopher Kollmann dedicated his work The shipwreck (opus 6) to him in 1796 . His political legacy is in the Lower Saxony State Archives in Hanover and in the Lentheschen Family Archives in Lenthe .

His marriage to Sophia Wilhelmine Louise von Hasberg (born June 18, 1757 in Nienburg, † April 1835 in Palermo, Sicily) was divorced in 1788. The daughter Antoinette (1774-1806) emerged from the marriage. She later married the baron Sigmund von Rotenhan (1761-1826). His wife married his second companion Karl August von Hardenberg in 1788 ; this marriage was also divorced in 1801.
