Ernst Ludwig von Borcke

Ernst Ludwig von Borcke (* 1702 in Zozenow in Pomerania ; † October 8, 1772 in Minden ) was a Prussian colonel , commander of the cuirassier regiment "von Stille" and, most recently, commander of the Minden fortress and chief of a land regiment consisting of four battalions.

Life

His parents were Ernst Christoph von Borcke († 1735) and his wife Sophia, née von Lockstedt († 1737).

Borcke came to the court of King Friedrich Wilhelm I at a young age and became his riding page. He saved the king's life twice during this period. For this he was immediately transferred to the cuirassier regiment "von Buddenbrock" as a lieutenant and received equipment and two horses as a gift. Under King Friedrich II , he fought with the regiment in the First and Second Silesian Wars . He became major in 1740, lieutenant colonel on November 21, 1741 and colonel on July 23, 1745. As such, he was then transferred to the cuirassier regiment "von Stille" as a commander.

But his health was bad and so he was transferred to Minden in 1749 as commandant.

During the Seven Years' War he became head of a land regiment stationed near Magdeburg . This was four battalions strong and consisted of 3500 men. With the troops he was able to drive out the French in Osterburg on October 5, 1757 and take some of them prisoner.

Borcke married Marie Henriette von Edling († January 27, 1768) adH Ribbekardt (Krs.Greifenberg / Pommern) on November 11, 1740.
