Ernst Nusselein

Ernst Nusselein (also Ernst Wilhelm Nusselein) (born February 9, 1908 in Rheydt ; † May 4, 1992 in Aachen ) was a German Roman Catholic clergyman and television pastor.

Life

Ernst Nusselein studied philosophy and theology in Bonn, Freiburg and Cologne. From 1929 he was a member of the Catholic student association KDSt.V. Arminia Freiburg im Breisgau in the CV , later also the KDSt.V. Franconia Aachen and the KDSt.V. Bergland (Freiberg) Aachen. In 1933 he was ordained a priest in Aachen and worked in the parishes of the Holy Cross in Aachen, St. Marien in Geilenkirchen and St. Castor in Alsdorf . He came into conflict with the Gestapo and the National Socialists several times. From March 11, 1945 he was pastor of St. Paul in Aachen .

He was spokesman in the diocesan priests council and diocesan chairman of the Pontifical Mission for Children as well as a clerical adviser to the Catholic Welfare Association for Girls, Women and Children . For 19 years he was a consultant for radio and television issues in the diocese of Aachen and for many years he worked for morning prayers and as a television pastor at the WDR 's Word on Sunday . On behalf of the German Bishops' Conference , he was the ship's chaplain on the large cruise ships.

Pope John Paul II appointed him papal local chaplain ( monsignor ) in 1978 .

In 1966 he was appointed Knight of the Order of Knights of the Holy Sepulcher by Cardinal Grand Master Eugène Tisserant and invested in Cologne Cathedral on December 3, 1966 by Lorenz Cardinal Jaeger , Grand Prior of the Order. Most recently he was a Grand Officer of the Order; he was the prior of the Aachen Commandery for many years. For his commitment in the Holy Land and the German Association of the Holy Land , he was awarded the Golden Palm of Jerusalem .

Ernst Nusselein found his final resting place in the Campo Santo in Aachen's Westfriedhof .
