Ernst Rudolf Bierling

Ernst Rudolf Bierling (born January 7, 1841 in Zittau ; † November 8, 1919 in Greifswald ) was a German legal scholar and politician. He is considered to be the main proponent of the theory of recognition , which tries to justify legal validity with the recognition of the law by the legal counterparts.

Life

Bierling, son of a Zittau lawyer, studied law in Leipzig and became a lawyer in Zittau in 1868. During his studies in the summer of 1859 he became a member of the Leipzig University Choir of St. Pauli (now the German Choir ). In 1871 he went to Göttingen as a private lecturer . In 1873 he went to Greifswald and was there at today's university until 1901 full professor of church and criminal law.

From 1878 to 1899 Bierling was a member of the Pomeranian Provincial Synod, and in 1875 and 1884–1902 a member of the General Synod of the Evangelical Regional Church of the older provinces of Prussia . From 1881 to 1885 he was a conservative member of the Prussian House of Representatives and since 1889 a member of the manor house for life.
