Ernst Schneider (horticulturist)

Ernst Schneider (* 1874 in Würzburg , † 1968 in Gemünd (Ebern) ) was a German horticulturist.

Life

From Posen, Schneider was appointed horticultural director to Königsberg i. Pr. Appointed. After the First World War he was able to carry out a generous planning of the urban green spaces. Among many other projects he designed on behalf of Mayor Hans Lohmeyer the conversion of kilometers of Königsberg fortifications to green areas ha with a total of 602. This enabled 6,000 of 18,000 unemployed, August Winnig had gotten within one week from the road. The many moats enlivened the landscape. The swampy copper pond in front of the Sackheimer Tor was converted into a swimming pool in 1925. Schneider fought for the complete exposure of the Königsberg castle pond and the Oberteich . It was not until 1937 that Hitler's expropriations succeeded in completing the almost 3 km long castle pond promenade. Seven years older, Schneider died in the same year as his boss Lohmeyer.
