Ernst Wagner (agronomist)

Ernst Wagner (born April 17, 1921 in Unirea , Romania ; † May 3, 1996 in Schwäbisch Hall ) was a German agricultural scientist and regional historian from the German-speaking minority of the Transylvanian Saxons .

life and work

The son of the Wallendorf pastor Adolf Wagner (1887–1946) and Auguste, née Scholtes (1899–1984), was one of three siblings. His brothers Kurt and Otto died in World War II .

He attended the secondary school in Bistrița , which he graduated with the Abitur. After military service and imprisonment from 1942 to 1946, he passed the 1st state examination for elementary school teachers in Eferding / Upper Austria . From 1949 to 1956 he studied agriculture at the Stuttgart-Hohenheim Agricultural University and took part in specialist training. Since 1952 he was a qualified farmer, since 1954 Dr. agr., 1956 assessor of agriculture; at the same time research assistant, agricultural trainee and research assistant. He published several basic historical and regional works on the history of the Transylvanian Saxons.
