Ernst Weißelberg (* 27. September 1883 in wholesale Plauth , district of Rosenberg, West Prussia ; † 20th January 1972 in Siegen ) was a German local politician of the CDU and 1946-1948 Mayor of the City of Siegen.

Live and act

After his return from the First World War , which he experienced in Palestine and other places, and after being captured by the English in Egypt , Weisselberg came to Siegen in 1920 as commercial director of the AEG office .

Like a number of later Siegerland CDU politicians in the Weimar Republic , he was politically active in the DNVP, which was dominated by the anti-Semitic Christian-Social in Siegerland, or after their break with their party in the Evangelical People's Service . From at least 1928 on, Weißelberg was a member of the Association for Germanness Abroad (VDA), an association of greater German and national community orientation.

In December 1945, Weißelberg was appointed by the British military authorities as an appointed member of the city council, the forerunner of the Siegen city council. The council representatives appointed by the occupation authorities elected Weißelberg as Lord Mayor of the city of Siegen on February 4, 1946.

After the first municipal election in the city of Siegen on October 13, 1946, Weißelberg was re-elected as a council member on October 23, 1946 by the elected Siegen council in the office of mayor and confirmed again on December 10, 1947.

In the next municipal election in October 1948, Weißelberg, who was a member of the Siegen city council as CDU representative until 1956, no longer ran because, according to the legal provisions of the time, he could only have remained in office until March 30, 1949. The CDU politician Ernst Bach was elected as his successor.

Weißelberg became an honorary member of the CDU district association Siegen. In 1953 he was one of the first Siegener to be awarded the Federal Cross of Merit.
