Ernst Witt (architect)

Ernst Witt (born May 4, 1898 in Gumbinnen ; † September 27, 1971 in Desenzano del Garda ) was a German architect , university professor and the last consistorial architect of the Evangelical Lutheran Church in Hanover .

Life

Witt attended high schools in Elbing and Danzig . After graduating from high school in 1918, he studied architecture from 1920 to 1924 at the Technical University of Danzig . In 1924 he passed the diploma examination. 1924/1925 he was a research assistant at the Technical University of Danzig, 1926 to 1932 technical director at the housing association Königsberg / Pr. , In 1931 he became Dr.-Ing. PhD , 1933 Dr. phil. From 1933 to 1945 he was a full professor at the Technical University of Danzig, temporarily also dean .

In 1946 Witt was appointed building advisor to the Hanoverian regional church, in 1953 he was appointed consistorial master builder and head of the regional church office for church building maintenance (from 1958: office for building and art maintenance) in Hanover. In this role he played a key role in the church's reconstruction after the Second World War. He was retired on March 31, 1962. In a part-time position, however, he took on individual research and expert assignments for the regional church office until 1969.

Witt was a lecturer at the Technical University of Hanover from 1960 and emeritus from this university from 1962.
