Ernst Wolf (born July 21, 1886 in Cotta , † July 29, 1964 in Hamburg ) was a German Vice Admiral in the Navy during World War II .

Career

Imperial Navy and First World War

Wolf joined the Imperial Navy on April 1, 1906 as a midshipman . He completed the basic training and then the basic training until March 17, 1907 on the covered corvette SMS Stosch used as a training ship . Then he came for further training from March 18, 1907 at the naval school in Kiel . On April 6, 1904, he was appointed ensign at sea . He then served on the small cruiser SMS Stettin from October 1, 1908, and was promoted to lieutenant at sea on September 30, 1909 . Afterwards Wolf was deployed as a company officer in the II. Torpedo Division and during this period of service also served several times a week as an officer on watch on the large torpedo boat SMS G 113 . On September 19, 1912 he was promoted to lieutenant at sea . Immediately before the outbreak of the First World War Wolf was from July 30, 1914 again as a security officer on G 113 used and changed on September 22, 1914 in the same capacity on the torpedo boat SMS V 28 . In June 1915 Wolf then took over the torpedo boat SMS V 30 as commander , and in June 1916 then also as commander of the torpedo boat SMS V 26 . Wolf held this position until December 1918, i.e. beyond the end of the war. Before that he was promoted to lieutenant captain on July 13, 1916 .

Imperial Navy

No commands can be determined from December 1918 to April 26th. Wolf then worked as a consultant at the personnel office of the North Sea naval station . From September 7, 1920, he was deployed as a navigational officer on the Kleiner Kreuzer Hamburg , belonged to the crew of the 4th Half Flotilla from October 1 to December 16, 1921, and was then commissioned to lead the 2nd Flotilla. From April 1 to September 26, 1922, he was a company commander in the II. Division of the North Sea Ship Mastery Division and then belonged again to the crew of the 4th Half Flotilla until February 14, 1923. From February 15, Wolf was in charge of this 4th half flotilla. This was followed by two assignments as admiral staff officer : first from November 10, 1924 as 3rd admiral staff officer in the staff of the Commander-in-Chief of the Naval Forces and then from April 1, 1925 as 3rd admiral staff officer in the staff of the fleet command. During this period of service he was promoted to corvette captain on August 1, 1925 . Subsequently, from September 27, 1926, Wolf was chief of the I. Torpedo Boat Flotilla and then from October 6, 1929, commander of the Navy's torpedo and intelligence school . In this position he was promoted to frigate captain on May 1, 1930 . On March 21, 1932 Wolf was appointed head of the Reichsmarinedienststelle Bremen . He kept this position even after the Reichsmarine was renamed the Kriegsmarine on June 1, 1935. Before that, he was promoted to captain at sea on October 1, 1932 and to rear admiral on June 1, 1936.

Navy

The Navy Department Bremen led Wolf even before September 27, 1936. Subsequently, he also took over as director until 30 September 1942, the Navy Department Hamburg . On January 1, 1939 Wolf received the character as Vice Admiral. The patent for this rank Wolf received on January 1, 1941. On August 31, 1942 Wolf was released from active military service and then made available to the Navy. As a zV officer, Wolf was Reichskommissar at the Prisenhof in Hamburg from October 1, 1942 to February 28, 1945. His departure followed on March 31, 1945.
