Ernst Wolfgang Mick

Ernst Wolfgang Mick (born June 10, 1926 ; † 2004 ) was a German art historian . He was director of the German Wallpaper Museum in Kassel .

Live and act

After training as a painter from 1946 to 1948 and working as a freelance artist between 1946 and 1951, Mick studied art history from 1952 to 1958 at the Philosophical Faculty of the Johann Wolfgang Goethe University in Frankfurt am Main . He received his doctorate on the subject of iconographic studies on Joannes Holzer 1709–1740 . From 1958 to 1960 he worked as a volunteer at the Kunsthalle Bremen . From 1960 to 1964 he was a lecturer in art history at the Bremen Art School . In the diocese of Münster / Westphalia he worked from 1964 to 1968 as diocesan curator and cathedral thesaurar , after which he was cultural advisor at Böttcherstraßen GmbH Bremen . From there he moved to the German Wallpaper Museum in Kassel in 1974, where he took over the management. He retired in the early 1990s ; He died in 2004.

The history of wallpaper became his research area, about which he wrote several books and articles. He said he was bibliophile and particularly interested in Goethe . This was expressed in his voluntary work : Mick was president of the Society of Bibliophiles from 1977 to 1979 . V. and for many years deputy chairman of the Goethe Society Kassel.
