Von Seydlitz, whose father died early in 1796, allowed school attendance at various institutions of the Brothers' Union to spend from 1801 to 1804 as a seminarian at the theological seminar of Niesky in Lusatia and to study at the preachers and teachers seminar in Gnadenfeld in Upper Silesia in the Cosel district consequences. He then worked for 28 years as a teacher for the Brethren. He initially worked as a teacher in Neuwied am Rhein and as the first teacher in Ebersdorf (Reuss / Thuringia). In 1815 he returned to Gnadenfeld. There he held a position as co-inspector of the Gnadenfeld schools. Subsequently, in 1819, he was appointed director ("inspector") of the educational institutions in Gnadenfrei , today's Polish Piława Gorna. In 1832 he was forced to resign from the educational institution after conflicts resulting from a lack of competence and financial problems at the teaching institute, for which he was held responsible. After his death, however, the girls' school there was named after him in 1907. After leaving the educational field, he was rather unsuccessful landowner.

Von Seydlitz was the founder of the Seydlitz geography books. His first work, which was later to become a geography standard textbook, was the guide to geography , which was published by JF Korn in Breslau and was designated as an elementary book for school lessons . The third edition of the work, published in 1842, was published by Ferdinand Hirt . In 1864 the book was translated into Dutch. An edition in Italian followed 18 years later. In 1891, when Seydlitz's book was already in its 21st edition, the number of copies sold broke the million mark.
