Ernster ( lux . : Iernzer or also Iernster , French : Ernster ) is a village in the municipality of Niederanven (lux .: Nidderaanwen) in the canton of Luxembourg in the Grand Duchy of Luxembourg (lux .: Lëtzebuerg ). It is about 372 meters above sea level.
The state road CR 132 runs through Ernster. North of Ernster is the village of Gonderingen (lux .: Gondereng) and southwest Rammeldingen (lux .: Rammeldang ). The Iernsterbaach flows from Serious Coming in Gonderingen with the Kriibsebaach together and forms the Schwaarz Iernz (French .: Ernz Noire ).
Noteworthy in Ernster is an old gnarled oak near Engelshof (lux .: Engelshaff ), which is said to be around 200 years old. The oak was added to the most notable trees in Luxembourg (lux .: Bemierkenswäert Beem zu Lëtzebuerg ). In 2000, when measuring, the trunk diameter was found to be 5.0 m with a size of 16 m. There is a small chapel shrine under the oak.
The branch church of St. Josef in Ernster belongs to the Hostert parish .
