The rock layers, up to 4 km thick , formed from the Carboniferous to Permian . The basin partially overlies the Pedirka basin . In the Eromanga Basin there are sediments and sedimentary rocks such as sandstone , mudstone and siltstone , as well as deposits of coal and old-red sandstone .
Moderate deposits of petroleum have been found in the Northern Territory; the search for deposits continues and there is a previously unexplored known uranium occurrence .
