from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

The Pedirka Basin (English: Pedirka Basin ) is a large sedimentary basin in Australia in the Northern Territory , which covers 150,000 km², of which 27,000 km² are in South Australia .

The rock layers, which are up to 2 km thick , formed in the late Paleocene 300 to 260 million years ago. The sedimentary basin is partially overlaid by the Amadeus Basin , Warburton Basin , Eromanga Basin and the Musgrave Province . Limestone , sandstone , mudstone , siltstone , coal and glacial sediment sequences can be found in the Pedirka Basin .

Geological investigations for deposits of crude oil , natural and seam gas , helium and coal take place in this area. Several geological surveys in South Australia found an oil deposit at a depth of 1250 meters.
