Erosion was a Hamburg based hardcore punk and thrash metal band that was founded in 1987 under the name Black Lords , disbanded in 1996, reunited in 1999 before disbanding again later.

history

The band was founded in the summer of 1987 by singer Chris Zenk, guitarists Stefan Römhild and Ulf Kaiser, drummer Klaus Nowakowski and bassist Jan Bünning under the name Black Lords. A short time later, the group decided to rename itself Erosion. After the first demo The Way of Forces was released, the band reached a contract with We Bite Records . In June 1988, the recording of the debut album Mortal Agony began , which was released in November. Shortly after the release, Kaiser left the band and was replaced by Michael Hankel. Three weeks later began a six-week European tour with Ludichrist . After this tour, bassist Bünning left the band and was replaced by Rainer Wischnewski.

In 1989 the second album followed with Thoughts . The group also recorded songs for various compilations until the single Gunman was released in 1991 . After Wischnewski had decided in August 1991 to leave the band to emigrate to Australia , Peter Ewald joined as the new bass player. The next album, III, followed in 1992 . The release was followed by a tour with Growing Movement . After a short break, during which the members could devote themselves to other things, singer Daniel Geiger and guitarist Boris Dräger joined as new members. After the fourth album with Down was released in 1996 , the band broke up in the same year due to internal differences.

Stefan Römhild and Michael Hankel joined the band Richthofen in early 1997 .

In the summer of 1999, Zenk, Römhild and Hankel met at a festival and decided to revive the project. Carsten joined the line-up as drummer, while Sven Carstens took over the bass. The band has now disbanded.

style

The band played a mix of thrash metal and hardcore punk, with metal influences increasing over the course of their careers. This went hand in hand with the lack of complexity and played more "gut feeling" instead of being overly top-heavy. The metal press drew comparisons with Agnostic Front , Cro-Mags , Leeway and Corrosion of Conformity .
