Erwin Becker

Erwin Helmar Becker (born June 15, 1898 in Darmstadt , † November 15, 1978 in Sonthofen ) was a German veterinarian and university professor .

Life

Erwin Becker left the Ludwigs-Oberrealschule in his hometown Darmstadt in 1917 with the primary school leaving certificate and subsequently served as a soldier in the First World War until 1919 . He then passed the Abitur examination for combatants at the Ludwigs-Oberrealschule and in 1921 turned to studying veterinary medicine at the University of Veterinary Medicine in Hanover , in 1928 he acquired the academic degree of Dr. med. vet. From 1926 until the outbreak of the Second World War , Becker was in charge of the private veterinary clinic of his uncle Helmar Dun, who died in 1925, in Sarstedt .

In 1951 , Becker qualified as a professor at the Free University of Berlin in veterinary surgery. In 1953 he was promoted to associate professor , the following year to full professor . In addition, he was appointed head of the Institute for Radiology, Animal Dentistry and Veterinary Orthopedics as well as the Clinic for Equine Diseases. In 1968 Becker, under whose direction around 400 instructional and surgical films had been produced that he regularly used in class, retired .

Becker, who had made a particular contribution to the dental treatment of horses, was recognized by the award of the Dammann Medal by the University of Veterinary Medicine Hannover and acceptance as an honorary member of the International Veterinary Students Union.
