Erwin Braun (politician)

Erwin Braun (born July 2, 1921 in Oberkirch ; † October 21, 1981 ) was a German Christian Democratic local and state politician. From 1948 until his death he was mayor of the city of Oberkirch .

Life

Erwin Braun was a member of the NSDAP and served as a soldier during the Second World War. During a mission he lost a leg and returned home seriously wounded after being a prisoner of war. In December 1945 he joined the Oberkirch city administration as an employee. When he joined the CDU, his further political career began. In 1948 he was first council clerk and on November 28 of the same year at the age of 27 he was elected mayor of the city of Oberkirch by the local council. He was confirmed in office by a large majority in 1957 and 1969.

During his 33-year tenure, a number of infrastructural construction projects were implemented. In 1953 the newly built hospital on Gaisbacher Strasse began operations, and in 1960 the new sports stadium was put into operation. In 1963 the municipal housing association was founded. When the Oberkirch sewage association was founded, the central sewage treatment plant went into operation in 1968. The town hall was opened in 1973 and the Hans Furler Schools were built between 1975 and 1982.

As part of the Franco-German friendship, a town partnership was agreed with the town of Draveil in the Essonne department in 1971 . As part of the municipal reorganization of Baden-Württemberg, nine independent municipalities from the surrounding area were incorporated into the city of Oberkirch between 1971 and 1975 and Oberkirch became the lower administrative center.

In addition to his work as mayor, he was a member of the CDU as a direct candidate in the constituency of Kehl from 1976 until his death in the state parliament of Baden-Württemberg , where he was deputy chairman of the interior committee from 1980.
